AMIGOS Project Staff

AMIGOS is committed to having youth-led community service programs in which veteran Volunteers can develop ever-increasing leadership, program management, and mentoring skills. AMIGOS believes strongly that when given the proper training young people can manage great responsibility effectively. The young men and women who advance through the levels of AMIGOS Project Staff develop excellent management and interpersonal skills that greatly enhance their college, graduate school and employment opportunities.

The AMIGOS Leadership Ladder:

FIRST LEVEL – PROJECT SUPERVISOR
After completing a successful project, veteran Volunteers can apply to be Project Supervisors, the initial level of management. Supervisors coordinate with partnering agencies to prepare host communities for the Volunteers' arrival and to plan the structure for implementing community service activities. Supervisors visit Volunteers in their communities, assist in problem solving, and respond to Volunteers' emotional, health and safety needs.

FIRST LEVEL - COLLEGE DIVISION SUPERVISOR
The College Division Supervisor is a new AMIGOS Project Staff role created in 2011. College Division Supervisors have the same responsibilities as Project Supervisors, with the addition of a few key responsibilities. They oversee a route comprised entirely of college student Volunteers and as such, organize additional opportunities to further engage them in the structure of AMIGOS programs. College Division Supervisors schedule meetings with partner agency representatives and their route of college students so that these Volunteers have the opportunity to gain a more in-depth, hands-on understanding of the partner agency’s work and how collaboration with AMIGOS further supports and develops their organization’s mission. * Applicants for this position need not have prior AMIGOS experience.

FIRST LEVEL - PROMOTOR(A) DE LIDERAZGO JUVENIL / YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROMOTER
The Promotor(a) de Liderazgo Juvenil (PLJ) position affords a prior Latin American Volunteer the unique opportunity to move up the AMIGOS leadership ladder. This staff role was created in 2010. The primary responsibility of the PLJ is to stimulate and strengthen the involvement of Latin American youth in AMIGOS’ projects by serving as a support system to Latin American youth. In this role, the Youth Leadership Promoter will draw upon previous AMIGOS experience to help recruit, select and train Latin American youth counterparts in collaboration with partner agencies and Project Staff. * This position is only available to former Latin American Volunteers (Volunteers who are from AMIGOS' project work areas in Latin America). Currently, AMIGOS has six open slots available for PLJs on AMIGOS' projects which have high levels of Latin American youth involvement.

THIRD LEVEL – ASSOCIATE PROJECT DIRECTOR
Individuals who excel as Senior Project Supervisors can apply for the third level of management.
